Located right at Tuscany’s doorstep, Nihonkai is noted for their fresh sashimi and terrific price-to-quality ratio. The food – along with the atmosphere – makes the restaurant a memorable experience. Lots of sashimi, rolls, and combination plates for lunch and dinner further expand their arsenal to slay that Japanese craving within. The price isn’t bad either. Especially for the quality they slam on the table, it’s a damn good trade.
Grab any of their raw dishes and eat the night away for almost half the price you’d originally pay in a high-end Japanese restaurant.
I highly recommend their Chirashi Don which features a whole lineup of ika, uni, white fish, mackerel, salmon, tuna, crabsticks, and tamago. On my first bite, the size, flavor and quality of this P495 dish made me feel like I robbed them out of their business. Also, the salmon always tasted like grade A+ wagyu in my past 50 or more visits. Look no further for your next Japanese lunch or dinner. Grab any of their dishes and eat the night away for almost half the price you’d originally pay in a high-end Japanese restaurant.
The staff are like family. They never leave your side and make sure each dish is served with more love and care than your mom and dad ever had for you.
And if you were like me back in the early days of Japanese eating, go for their good ole Katsu Curry with golden crispy pork cutlet smothered in curry over a bed of good quality rice. This meal is perfect for when you’re dining with a specific budget in mind, and they won’t fail you. The staff are like family. They never leave your side and make sure each dish is served with more love and care than your mom and dad ever had for you. So when the day comes that the whole world hates you, don’t forget, Nihonkai will always be there to soothe your lonely battered childhood away.
I said SOOTHE not FIX.
The golden hand of Nihonkai. Scattered pieces of incredibly fresh sashimi over a bed of quality sushi rice. Legend says enough consumption of this dish will turn you into a full-blown mermaid.
Spicy Tuna Sashimi
It’s simple, fresh, and one of their most popular appetizers. A great starter that will complement almost every main dish. It’s like buying a condom. It’s also mildly spicy, fatty, and balanced out by the tuna’s lean meat.
Their tempura was okay, which is why I didn’t talk about it that much. It was awesome before but recently, their batter became a bit too thick for my taste.
Now this is different from your usual Shrimp Tempura. The pieces are overloaded with fresh uni and how they did the batter in this one was perfect. There were bits of hot uni oozing out as I grabbed a piece. And before I knew it, all I could say was “What? Done already!?”
I like curry. They have it here. I can have a lot of it. It is good. The pork is good. The rice is good. Simple is good. Period.
HEIST SCORE - 8.0/10
Whether you’re looking for raw or cooked dishes, Nihonkai offers both of these at an awesome price and quality. The space itself is slender and cozy with a small traditional bar area, dark brown furnished chairs, and a spread of Japanese accents. A must-order would be their Chirashi Don and Spicy Tuna Sashimi which is enough to make you want to change your career into a Japanese fisherman.
